of the eye muscles. A doctor observes the movement of the eyes in six specific directions.
Procedure
- Stand in front of the children.
- Ask them to follow your torch light with their eyes while keeping their head in one position.
- Using your torch light, trace an imaginary "H", making sure that your torch light moves far enough out and up/down so that you're able to see all appropriate eye movements (ie lateral and up, lateral down, medial down, medial up).
- At the end, bring your torch light directly in towards the children's nose. This will cause them to look cross-eyed and the pupils should constrict, a response referred to as accommodation.
Interpretation
The eyes should be able to easily and smoothly follow your torch light.
